Project 3 Announcement

Create 2 different CD label designs using the template provided in class. The design must fit your theme and include a title and text describing the fictional contents of the CD. For example if you are using the photography theme, then you might put "Jim Bowen Photography Studios, 2008, Client: Arnita Baker Vacation photos" or if your theme is music the name of the album and the included song titles. Choose a font to fit the design. Remember that the font as well as the design dictate the mood of the product. Choosing the proper font will affect how coherent the design appears to be.

Here are the criteria:

  1. Create 2 different designs on the same template (download the template here)
  2. Design within your theme parameters
  3. Use as many layers as you feel necessary, more is better
  4. Apply some descriptive text to each CD being careful to choose an appropriate font. The text should be different for each CD label. The CD must have a title and content description. The font you choose will have a significant impact on your grade.
  5. You should use your photostock as much as possible. Other images should NOT contribute significantly to your design.
  6. Save your file as a psd file while maintaining all layers.
  7. Burn the CD using the usual naming conventions, label the CD and jewel case or sleeve.
  8. Print the template page on 8.5 x 11 paper and bring it to next class. Remember to turn off the gray layer and turn on the white layer when printing.

You will find several large free font resources listed on the "resources" page of this site. Please make sure to take your time and make careful choices about which fonts you use. When you download your fonts they will download either as zip files or as ttf (truetype fonts). If you get a zip file it will need to be expanded. Double click on the file to expand it and you will find either a folder or your font file on the desktop. To install the font on a Mac follow the directions listed here: https://www.fonts.com/AboutFonts/Help/OSX_fontinstall.htm
